Owl by my Window

Owl by my Window

A Poem by Alex Vidmar
"

This actually happened last night. Thought it would be good to put it into words.

"
Last night as I sat strumming,
A loud cry interrupted my humming.
It was the cry of a demon,
It's sound, so inhuman.

Then came the hooting,
A recognizable call.
That "who-who-wh-whooo"
Of the Great Horned Owl.

I turned out my lights and,
Cracked open a shade.
And with it's human's eyes,
Silent contact was made.

Human and Animal,
Connection was made.
And I could tell,
It would never fade.

I watched as it left
It's perch by my window.
And a nearby tree,
Was where it flew off to.

It stayed in that tree,
All night long.
A spirit of the night,
Where it belonged.

I felt like it was
Trying to tell me something.
A message, maybe?
It could be.

My silent guardian,
My mutual friend.
I have a feeling tonight,
It'll happen again.

I trust that you understand.
I trust you all believe.
This story isn't a lie.
It's real, don't you see?

I have this connection,
With a demon of the night.
A demon who guards me,
With all of it's might.

OWL!!! very beautiful creatures. Sometimes, when we least expect it, something extraordinary happens and the moment takes on such profound inspiration in the soul that it seems impossible to contain. I feel like that happened with the connection you made with your guardian, very rare. Awesome write as well, the words captivate and the poem tells a beautiful story.

i liked the beginning of this poem, and the end quite a lot, especially the "with a a demon of night. A demon who guards me, With all of its might." sent chills :).
but the fourth and fifth stanza, in my opinion were a bit slow, but great over all piece :D!

I have a great appreciation for owls. My grandmother loved them and collect different ceramic ones over the years. Owls are mysterious and seem to have intelligence when you look in their eyes.

Great poem, reminds me of a similar situation that happened to me. I really like the imagery and word flow, they really compliment the subject matter.

this needs to be put to music--your use of rythm is outstanding

That really was good. Even though every stanza wasn't always in the same rhyming style...it didn't matter to me.

What mattered was it was quite expressive, had lots of imagery for me, and was well done.
