One Day I Hate of 365

One Day I Hate of 365

A Poem by Alex Vidmar

If there is one day I hate out of all 365,
It's the one that falls on 2/14.
Why you ask, well here are the reasons.
Death, Love, and Sadness are in season.

Whether it's a breakup or death or
Just another pain;
Each year on this day I relive it again.

There are other reasons,
Too many to list,
But those are the main three,
That make this one day just s**t.

I know it's all just propaganda,
But for the young kids it's just as real as the Easter Bunny or Santa.
However, we have been taught from a very young age,
That Valentine's Day is really for people of every age.

Well, I say f**k this day, just like the Massacre of the same name.
F**k it and Love. both are just games,
Of the mind you see, they really aren't real.
At least, not for me, that's how I feel

Valentine's Day--the best way I heard it put was Singles Awareness Day. Why is it that men (and women) think that if you have no lover, and if you're alone all the time, you're somehow less of a man? In my opinion, solitude and chastity doesn't make a man less of a man--it just makes him a bit more lonely . . . a bit more quiet, too.

I feel the same way about Valentine's Day. Last year my boyfriend actually broke up with me for a week and asked me back out the next. I'm guessing he just didn't wanna go out and get me anything :/

I like this, since Valentine's Day is really like this for many people.
I may not have a guy to celebrate this day with but I have my awesome family and friends :) Which that's where true love is held. Great job!

Valentines Day, if there were ever a day that one would think a follower of beauty would hail it would be this. But I cannot countenance it, for one reason alone I condemn it: it is indicative of our society's desire to possess love or beauty. We spend our lives trying to lay some claim to someone's, or something's, or even our own affections and beauty. Without ever realising that in seeking possession, dominion, we sterilise the very affection and beauty we so admired. Love, beauty, can never be possessed it will always pass and fade but it can be enjoyed. You have fine features in your youth? They will wither. You have the love of your parents? They will die. You have the love of another? It will end. You are proud of your achievements? They will be forgotten. But nothing here is for tears, rejoice in the momentary beauty, accept its passing and realise that were we leave only ruins of desolation nature shall place copses of roses.

Again my musings are at an end. Now to attend to the more important matter, your poem. Of the pieces of yours I have read - a grand total of five I am sorry, I do promise to read more - this is easily my favourite. There is a tone of sincerity - which I am beginning to believe may be characteristic of your work, no? - and there is also a dry humour. The sort of comedy that an awareness of the absurdity of life brings. I will admit the date threw me for a moment, being Australian we list the day first and the month second, but that was the only stumbling block in the poem for me. Otherwise an approachable, sincere, dryly funny, and well done piece - bravo!

Regards,
A.E.

This was a touching poem, Word usage is fairly decent. I love your unique stance on this day, most write sappy love poems but this is different which gets you respect in the writing world. Keep writing :3

I really like this poem. You read so many icky love poems about that day and you don't see past the hallmark that days like that can be dreadful to some. And I know exactly how that it. great emotion, you have a really expressive tone.
