Just a Shadow of What We Once Were...

Just a Shadow of What We Once Were...

A Poem by Alex Vidmar

We once had everything,

And love was all we needed.

And although we live so far apart,

Your words were all I heeded.

But now I just looked at my phone,

At the message on its screen...

Reading the words I thought I'd never read...

"I'm sorry... But friends is all we can ever be"...

You've broken what's left of me,

My spirit and my heart...

You once lifted me up, but now you let me fall,

Dropping off the charts...

The pain I feel is like no other,

And when feelings come, I yell "Duck and Cover!"

The shards and slivers are irrepairable...

There's nothing left, the hurt is unbearable...

I've removed all memories of you,

Deleted, erased, blocked, and turned away from you...

You've killed me inside, I hope you know that,

Kicked my heart to the curb, left it sitting on the doormat.

Whether you're proud or not, I don't know,

But I feel it's fake (All that "remorse" you show)...

You've stabbed me in the back and torn out my heart...

I'll never again feel right, of me, you've destroyed a part...

the relationship looked liked it was going downhill, and inevitably end ugly. unless you can stomach the thought of being friends with this girl, you need to let her go and get some closure. take time for yourself and your friends to get your feet on the ground. otherwise, don't be a fool.

Ohmygosh,I know how exactly this feels. It's how I have been treated once before. It is one of the worst feelings in the world to ever possibly go through. I am sorry that you went through this, too :( But great job on the poem!

Powerful and I respect the truth behind it. You use descriptive words that make your poems sound so much better.

Thank you, Aaron. Yes, writing this was tough, and only a very little bit therapeutic. But thank you.

It must've been tough writing this while all of that hurt was still fresh :( Hopefully it was kind of therapeutic. The sense of anguish really comes through strongly in this; good job.

A powerful poem. In real life. The words in your poem are true. The simple things are missed when we are alone and heart broken. I like the complete poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

For me it awakes a space in me that was afraid to stir. I admire this poem.
