Survive

Survive

A Chapter by Alex Vidmar

Across the street, my friend and Death meet.

Deliverance by grenade.

In his memory, I stand straight and say,

"To survive to the end, that's me."

My home is fortified against the horde;

tank full of gas and steel on the sides,

and vengeance burning in my core.

I. Will. Live.

In this trailer I survive with my family of four;

My wife, my son and my two-month-old daughter.

Our dog was eaten early on,

Sacrificed to escape slaughter.

My son, not yet six, knows his role well.

That if Mom and Dad die, to take his sister

And run like f*****g Hell.

He knows to never look back.

But until that time comes,

We'll protect our young ones.

I step on the gas and we roll through the masses.

'Til, one day, we find safety true.

that's intense..i mean the fight me and my friend had:
we read the line:
"To survive to the end, that's me."

and you can kind of see where we fought on that line and then we cooled down and read:

I. Will. Live.

phew, we took off in 5 different langauges, english, spanish, latin, arabic, and sign langauge. but other then that it was a great poem you have great writing! :D

This was perfect, third and fourth stanza were my favourites, a story in miniature, just in this one poem. Great stuff. Thanks.

Gah. I can't even decide which chapter I like the best, you need to quit writing so well! haha. Great job though, really heartwarming and fierce.

This was stimulating on a intellectual scale. I think that your knit together words with such amazing skill.

The battle's tense in all families huh? Especially the lil' ones! And I for one am kinda proud of the kid who agreed to running for the hills with his little sister if their parents died. I mean, he's six and in an apocalypse like this, it's hard for a six year old with at two month old to get around. Well again, like this so far, no errors whatsoever.

Wow... love this, the feeling shows in this, like as a battle/ infestation. I love how the love shows in this, the family tied together to show protection for each to get through it all to safety finally, to survive.

I love how raw this peice is. It's very powerful.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you personally find the inspiration for this poem?
