Final Stand

Final Stand

A Chapter by Alex Vidmar

Stuck in this prison of steel and concrete.

Safe in this house, I sleep, s**t, and eat.

One scared woman a-knockin' at my door.

An hour goes by: she ain't a-knockin' no more.

Shotgun in my grip, shells at my side;

I'm safe in this house; here I reside.

Ten people now, clawing at my windows.

Through emotionless faces, buckshot makes holes.

Ten days pass; I'm cold and alone.

Their cries rack my brain; they have no shame.

Forced to eat my dog, and then my cat.

I grip the grenade in my pocket.

Twenty days later, I'm still in this house.

One shell left, thousands milling about.

My door breaks down, they come stumbling in.

My last shot does nothing; the grenade, I pull it's pin.

They swarm around me; four seconds left.

They tear at me and bite; three seconds to go.

Their infections infest my wounds; two seconds, now.

One second left, I won't become one of them...

I give them a grin; oh what shagrin,

"F**K YOU ALL!"  I think.

My home is blown apart by the fire within...

F**k the Infestation!

I still haven't gotten to the food problem in my book but might as well do because your really do have a point. If you barricade yourself in, you have limited food supply... Lol the ending kinda reminds me of what Takashi says at the end of the anime -thinks- are somewhere in it. He f bombs a lot XD. Very epic write, and now, I'm off to the next chapter.. -scampers off-

Wow... that is a vividly detailed experience, in this write. You made the poem, so story like as you described the scene so well, and so captivating that it holds the readers heart threw each word and line, or at least mine. Very very nice write... enjoyed the suspense in it building up each passing day and seconds, to the end. The survival in this to hang on as long as possible, just to go down, and die before turning to one of them... incredible. I don't think I have read anything like this quite yet, usually cause it's such a different type of subject for me to read. Haha. But this is nice... very good write. It's like a several of those movies, with zombies, and vampires... you made this poem come alive well. Enjoyed.

XD reminds me of the insane guy who died in the underground barracks cause of the zombie apocalypse, then again this is a bit darker than that, great job at writing in first person without saying I more than 6 times XD and awesome twist end!

In a way I can relate to every word because I do try to put on a brave face to exit into the world beyond this house I am in, but once I return to this room I cannot help but deny my inner demons. Anyway this was well penned. ^^*
