Eternal, Infinite

Eternal, Infinite

A Poem by Alex Vidmar

Emotion rules our world

Our actions, our minds.

Infinite, they hold us under control.

Eternally, they kill us.

Love can kill you in a heartbeat.

Sadness can drown with tears.

Homosexuality can kill with just one wrong look.

Beliefs are tricks they enslave and slaughter us.

Physical attacks leave hiddens scars

And emotions choose our fears.

And when scars reopen,

Pain and fears worsen.

Emotion causes death.

Both directly and not.

Shrinks cant help us, neither can Gods.

Ourselves are all we got.

Eternal, we live, through spirit and through kin.

Infinite, emotions live, flowing from within.

Control our emotions, that we must get right.

Or forever live in suffering: Eternal, infinite.

To place our emotions under a yoke of reason what heinous a concept! The only purpose of the mind is to bow in ceaseless obeisance to the heart. But then I am a Romantic, like Seeger and Shelley though without their prodigious talent, I abhor and reject the supremacy of reason; beauty and its adoration must be our unequaled sovereign, reason must kneel.

This is a beautiful piece, wrought with the firmness of sincerely held beliefs, and while I may dissent on many a point. I cannot deny the poem's beauty. I enjoy it for that alone.

This piece is born of a dedication to the pursuit of the truth I fear, a reasonable truth, a universal truth. I am of the firm belief in the truth of Imagination - what the imagination seizes as Beauty is the only truth - whether it existed before or not - for I have the same idea of all our passions as of love: they are all, in their sublime, creative of essential beauty. The imagination may be compared to Adam's dream, he awoke and found it truth. I have never been able to perceive how anything can be known for truth by consecutive reasoning. Oh for a life of sensation rather than of thoughts! Considering that we shall enjoy ourselves hereafter by having what we called happiness on earth repeated in a finer tone - or so I am of the firm belief. Such a fate can only befall those who delight in sensation, rather than hunger after truth. Beauty will do here, and seems to be a conviction that imagination and its empyreal reflection is the same as human life and its spiritual repetition.

I shall end my rambling immediately, for they have lingered too long. Thank you however for sharing a piece which made me ponder my own beliefs, and in doings refined them. I look forward to reading more of your work.

Regards,
A.E.

Very nice job of putting something into words that is in a way, difficult to say for some. I enjoyed this, nice words for the feelings; I think you hit this spot on. Well done, like it a lot.
