All I Think About...

All I Think About...

A Chapter by Steve F.
"

Michael loses concentration on his predicament when Sarah visits his apartment. This could change Michael's plan to leave everything behind.

"

Michael sits at his computer desk. His radio is on but he's ignoring it while doing reseach. It's late, around midnight, and he is restless. The lights that pass his window from cars annoy him and disturb his concentration. one set of lights stops outside his apartment and shuts off.

Sarah walks to the front door of the five apartment building in a shabby part of town. She is afraid to be outside at this time, but knows its all for a good reason. She looks at the small piece of paper she is holding and reads the apartment number. She rings the buzzer for his apartment. "Yes?" A familiar voice speaks through the crackling line. "Mike...please let me in." Sarah pleads. A buzz is heard and the door unlocks. Sarah enters the building and walks to the apartment where Michael stands with folded arms. "Come to convince me that i''m a f*****g emo again?" He asks harshly. She can feel the anger in his tone and cringes. "No...I just want to talk." She says nervously, stepping past him into the small, dark apartment. She sits on the couch and looks down at the floor. Michael sits on a small chair at the dining room table. "Why are you distancing yourself like that, Mike?" She asks, looking up at him. "Why should I sit near someone who doesn't believe me?" He replies. The same cold tone makes her cringe yet again. He isn't the same Michael she knew. From the guest room, the radio is heard in the silence. "Landing in London" by 3 Doors Down comes on and quietly plays through the apartment. "Michael...i'm sorry. I don't know what else to say, but dreams that hurt you...who the hell would believe that?" Sarah asks, breaking the silence. "I would...and I hoped you would." Mike said, hanging his head. Sarah just stares at the guy who had once been so close to her. She felt the emotional distance and knew that he had sealed away all emotion and feelings. He was a mere husk of the man he once was.

"Sarah...I used to feel so strongly about you. I really liked you...and I knew that we were really close. I thought, above anyone else, that you would have believed me." Michael said, not moving his gaze from the floor. "W-What do you mean?" Sarah asked. "You were the person I was hoping would believe me and help me, but I guess I don't have anyone who will help me. Go figure, i'm alone again." Michael confessed. A tear ran down his cheek and fell to the floor. "Listen...I don't care that you cut yourself...I'll help you get help. I'll help you get through it!" She said, staring at him. "I'm not a goddamn cutter! How many times do I have to explain this?" Michael exclaimed. He stood from his seat with enough force to knock his chair backward. "Mike...if you get help...maybe we can be together..." Sarah explains nervously while looking at the floor. "Sarah, if I was an emo, I would get help. You know that! Unfortunately, theres nothing I can do to get help with what's going on with me." Mike replies. "But Mike...I want to be with you...I just...you know how I feel about cutters." Sarah said, still nervously. Michael turned to the wall and put his arm against it for support. "Get out of my apartment, Sarah. Just get the hell out and don't come back. I'm going to move again...but this time, i'm going alot farther so you can't track me down again." He said, stammering and crying a little. "But Mike-" " I SAID GO!" Michael yelled at her. He opened the door and forced her to leave, slamming the door shut behind her. Sarah walked out to her car, got in, and cried for what felt like hours.

A kncok on her window brought Sarah back to reality. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying and it was pitch black out. "Get outta the car lady. Get out and we won't hurt ya...much." A man with a knife said. Sarah couldn't do anything because she was helpless. These men were going to rape her and she was helpless. As she was pulled from the car, the man grabbed her shirt and ripped it off. He was going to rip off her bra when a loud crack from behind him made him fall on the ground unconscious. michael stepped forward and put his coat on Sarah's shoulders. She fainted from all the adrenaline and he carried her back into his apartment. He laid her in his bed, went to the living room, and fell asleep on the sofa. The next morning wouldn't be easy on him, but for now he needed to sleep.
