Project Alexia

Project Alexia

A Story by KingJoseph

"Squell, if you must; but remember, he is always listening."

A change of tone, a faint change in your facial expression and even the difference in heart beat, can mean the difference between life and death. Subject 12, Alexia, highly intelligent and highly sensitive. Detained and experimented in this underground laboratory situated in Rosswell.

This is what it says in the name plate of this room. The door is not locked but I'd best watch my movements for there are shattered glass on the floor. Must have been a a visible room to outsiders. The floor is wet, not entirely reddish so it must have mixed with the substance of this room and judging from its looks, I would say it has long been abandoned. My flashlight can barely hold on so I must make this quick, though I am so fascinated that I can't let fear take over.

Creeking sounds, droplets, and puddle sounds I make with my feet. Everything feel so loud. perhaps this is what they say about enhanced senses for the disabled, though in this case, I would not daresay its a blessing. What is strange is, an eerie noise is always mixed in at every interval. Something similar to radio buzzing sounds or faulty channels on the television, one things for certain, it is definitely fascinating!

The deeper I go, the less I hear the sounds. Its getting damper but the droplets havs stopped which seem to be strange. As I was walking, I seemed to have hit something, rolling all the way down a hole further to my right. I reached out, it was a cracked mug.

"Johnson, A.D" was encrypted in the mug, perhaps the owner! It had a cute UFO pattern surrounding it too.

And look, a notebook! Most of the pages were damp so the text were unreadable. I can only see pieces...

"Alexia seems to be responding well, she loves to be entertained. Johnson was her favorite. He'd often ask her favorite object, it was a technique to gather information on its interaction, Johnson had his mug as an example. After a twelve minute delay, which seemed unsual, she had pointed to Johnson! How cute, it has grown attached to him." P1

"Alexia was fond of drawing, she would often draw our team, the lab and all the equipment, through her perspective of course!" P15

"Alexia seems to enjoy tapping on the glass, she would often make sounds directed to it as well!" P24

The last page was quite frightening, it had drips of blood but still readable.

"How foolish were we to even attempt to grasp such an intellectual, and we thought we were the smarter ones. To her, everything was fascinating! We weren't observing her, she was observing us." P40

It seems cut off, perhaps I may find more clues onwards. At last, I have found another worksite but strange enough, it was intact. I looked inside only to see a grotesque sight. Each researcher in strings, forced to move! Their skins have been kept in tact but they were obviously dead, the room had been painted red with blood. Before I could scream, I felt a tap and the eerie noise was back. It was Alexia, has she been luring me here with the noises? One things for certain, she wanted me to join the group.

i like your first line ..for me it is a good hook .. Roswell will always hold mystery and "theories" ... using it for a setting gives me instant pictures and mood ... there is always editing ...especially for writers of short and long stories ;) but that aside i finish reading and especially want to know more about Alexia ..but also the history of this particular "Roswell" ... and the gruesome scene your protagonist stumbled upon
