Morning

Morning

A Poem by KindaCursed

quiet morning mist

hanging over soybean fields

disguising wildlife at play

melody of dawn

songbirds call the slumbering wood

to a new beginning

steaming coffee in a chipped mug

ancient bench on a weathered wooden deck

solitude and contemplation

empty roads cut through

countryside and city blocks alike

the world sleeps, save me

sandpaper tongue on my cheek

a loud purr rumbling a tiny body

the kitten’s wake up call

ham and eggs splatter oil

overcooked toast drinks butter thirstily

breakfast table banter

cool linen cocoon around

a body in the final hours, moments of stillness

shake off this sleep and fly

the world stumbles alive each dawn

like the swan on the shore, ungainly, awkward

upon the water of new day, she glides

These aren't the traditional 5-7-5 haikus and I know that. They're a more open form with only 3 short lines in each. If you do some research on haiku, the 5-7-5 system's wrong because the Japanese actually count stressed sounds, not syllables. SO, I don't need to hear that my syllable counts are off. I know.

your syllable counts are off :P :P :P JOKING!!

I understood what you were doing right away, and i adored it. this piece was absolutely gorgeous, it held so much fantastic imagery, and made me imagination soar. it was hopeful, it was sweet, and the mood and tone was just precious.

"sandpaper tongue on my cheek

a loud purr rumbling a tiny body

the kitten's wake up call"

that was, surprisingly, my favorite - i dont usually fall for the images of animals, especially dogs or cats, this made me just soooo happy.

beautiful job my dear

I loved this poem...the texture, the flow, the images it created.
