Every afternoon we can

Rebuild our relationships, get second chances, 

Make over our lives, get more stuff.

 

Maxims, lived by for generations

Have been discarded in lieu of

Superficial and supercilious means of

Self-improvement

 

LIVE A BETTER LIFE

With all these opportunities

We are fools

To accept the American dreams of just getting by.

 

Enough is never enough

The restless class of the haves

Clamber for more, always more

Enough is never enough

 

We will never be satisfied

Knowing who we are and what we need

Even this fails to alleviate

The desire for the things we never needed

 

While we gather more we forget

We ignore those out there with nothing

They fail to exist because they are out there

And they have nothing

 

What should we do?

Climb into our new cars

Hide in our gated communities

Or just give up
