$1.99 A Minute

$1.99 A Minute

A Poem by KindaCursed

scanning         the         papers

searching           for            a

job

summertime sprang

 found pockets              empty

car running                 on fumes

the ad’s simple seduction

work from home

flexible hours

great pay

telephone ringing

ready to ask for Sindy

as the ad instructed.

(pause)

a voice         like temptation

sultry in the ear

hello dear, Sindy here

get up for pleasure you can’t measure

(click)

wrong number?

dial again.

same greeting

more sultry still

courage from a deep breath

calling about a job…

baby cakes, that joke is great

but we're on the phone and you're on your own

(click)

        right number

wrong job.
