Disillusionment of the SupermarketA Poem by KimmieR1728Based on Wallace Stevens' poem, Disillusionment of Ten O'Clock. Submitted for my first assessment in Creative Writing at university. The aisles are haunted, By zombies and robots. None are fully awake, some are Dazed by newborns back at home, Or clouded by the night before Or on autopilot during their lunch break. With thoughts of the warm beds they left, Not the traffic and homelessness they encountered Before they all wound up here, together. Interrogated by the bright bleached light, Scolded by self service, unexpected items. Fretting about cutting calories or budgets, But, here and there, the odour of meat or fish, Fresh bread and colourful crops Illuminates the mind to possibilities. © 2018 KimmieR1728 |
