Chapter 5: KatieA Chapter by Kimmi FrostKatie’s alarm clock went off at precisely 7am with the Doctor
who theme tune, which she knew would get stuck in her head all day. She yawned
and rolled over, her hand searching for the phone that was plugged into the
wall, next to her pillow. She grabbed the phone and switched it off. She
groaned and stood up, stretching and thinking about a great dream she had had
the night before. It seemed so real. She was playing her favorite online game
and…..then she had a thought. It wasn't a dream! She took her laptop from the
shelf and switched it on. She checked her email and sure enough there it was
the copy of the conversation in case she ever needed it. She smiled and she got
up to get ready for college. Grabbing a shower, drying her hair and throwing on
her clothes she wondered what topics tonight conversation would hold. She recalled
the disagreement about the Doctor Who and the Walking Dead and laughed. It wasn't every night that The Doctor was referred to as a ‘bisexual alien who floats
around in a blue box’. She left the house with her earphones in and then that
feeling started to set in. She forced herself to keep walking. She hated
college and all of the kids in it. It wasn't that she was anti-social or that
she was a horrible person, it was the fact that she was continually bullied
because of the way she was. She knew that she was nothing much to look at, she
was what her mum called ‘podgy’; basically fat and she had glasses. Combine those
two things and you have a living hell just waiting for you. And that was what
was waiting for her when she got to college, the endless taunts about her
weight and glasses, having nobody there to stick up for her. She felt lonely
and all she could do was listen to her music and try to ignore them all. Ignore
all of the crap that was going on. ‘Maybe today won’t be so bad’, she thought. ‘I've got monkey_man waiting for me to get back tonight’. She smiled at the thought
of someone actually wanting to talk to her. She had a sudden urge of confidence
but as soon as she got into the grounds, it all started. ‘Hey, thunder thighs!’
She looked up to see one of the people she hated most, Jason Smith and walked
on, her head bowed down, looking at the floor and pretending not to care. ‘Maybe
not’, she thought. © 2014 Kimmi Frost |
