Silence

Silence

A poem about sleep paralysis

"
Click Click Click...
Silence...
Deep smothering night
Paralyzed movements
My body starts to fight
Staring into empty cold eyes
My cries are met with silence
In this deep smothering night...

It starts with silence
In the deep dark night
Whence your haunted return
Strike me from life
Cold dark fingers that bend and tie
Pleads and cries are consumed
by black hollow eyes
consumed by silence
In this deep smothering night...

Tick-tock
Tick-tock
Tick-tock
Even clicks of time- lost to me,
 Within this haunted dream
Of silence...
In the deep cold night...
Where I’m met with shadowed cold eyes
That keep me paralyzed In silence...

and the deep smothering night...
It’s the silence...
The paralyzing quiet,
Feeling dreams that realities scene
It’s sanity one starts to question
As not a soul can mention...

Those haunted shadow eyes
That are known to paralyze...
Daunting, chilling haunting Bending, gripping winding, Silent. Smothering. Night... Prayers and sighs
Meet empty holes for eyes

Amazing and breath-taking! I love how you use dreams to coincide with your body and feelings during such a difficult night. Its like the mind and body are going against the reality of the rest we need, but also taking away the solace a dream is supposed to bring. Perhaps this can cause us to feel unnerving, restless and maybe a bit fearful at times. Still, I believe everything can be worked through when near one who cares for you. Keep up the good work.

Like a person who suffered from sleep paralysis for several years. I can totally relate to your writing. At my case I always felt some heavy weight like the beast sitting on me and I cannot breath. Also that beast scream to my ears some very bad dirty words
It was always very ugly experience. One time I actually woke up before the beast show up and since beast is gone. I like your precise description cause person who knows what sleep paralysis is really is .Can totally relate. All the best and I hope you sleep paralysis will be soon gone .

Night equals fascination for me. Inspiration comes to me in the dark. Thoughts spring up like mushrooms after a rain. I feel all distractions are eliminated in darkness and it is a gift allowing us to refocus. What we see depends so much on our lives at the time. A very thoughtful write! Keep it up...

You’re very kind and thank you
I wish the best for you as well
This is a well-written poem, but I went into it with a question mark in my mind. You mention "sleep paralysis" right under the title & so I'm reading while wondering if your poem describes a known sleep affliction (if so, please explain in authors notes) or if this is a novel way to describe everyday sleep issues that anybody might have. I'm not sure if the problem is the act of sleeping itself or a lack of sleep or if this is a dream phenomenon, as one reviewer mentions. I love all the different & interesting & powerful ways you convey a feeling of what this feels like, but I just wish I was a little better informed as to what exactly this poem is saying. I know this narrator has a sleep problem & I know how it must feel, but I don't know how the actual sleep manifests for this person!?!?! Not that it matters. Sometimes mystery is the point (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
