If these walls could talkA Poem by Kimberly SmithIf these walls could talk She left out the back door when I was coming in the front
They would act as a mirror and tell me I’m beautiful
Because they know how many times I’ve cried
They would tell me I’m brave
Because they know between these four walls I hide
They wouldn’t tell on you
Because they keep secrets
They ignore the figures and pictures we hang to hide the ugly of our pride
If these walls could talk
What would they say?
Damn the price I would pay
They would say the way the head board beats them up
Screeches from her cheap painted on finger nails sealed their mouths shut
Or the way you watch him turn of his phone and throw it at you
With the rush of me coming home
The way you show favoritism to me because you seen the way we made love, and made 3 boys
That you grew to love and watch grow up
But just like you walls
I know the truth
But..
She left out the back door when I was coming in the front
They would act as a mirror and tell me I’m beautiful
Because they know how many times I’ve cried
They would tell me I’m brave
Because they know between these four walls I hide
If these walls could talk
They would say nothing at all
