The Truth About Nothing

The Truth About Nothing

A Poem by KillerWithWords
"

Nothing always means something...

"

The Truth About Nothing:

“Hey, What’s up with you.”

“Nothing.”

This word always means something.

“Decipher me” is what she really means.

Dig past my ambiguity, find that kernel.

There’s something to my nothing.

But I’m not saying it right now.

Which, also says something about that something.

FIND! FIND IT! She silently screams.

Go search she says while glaring angrily.

“What is it?” intrigues the boy.

“Nothing, Nothing, Nothing” says the girl.

It is your job to find this thought.

Use your intellect and reason to get to it.

“Are you mad?” questions the boy.

Shrug, shrug, shrug. Shrugs the girl.

“Is everything okay” he re-asks.

Nod, nod, nod. Nods the girl.

Oboy, thinks the boy. This looks real bad.

She’s slipped to the dark side and gone completely mad.

He sits down for a moment allowing the news to settle.

Out screams a response, “You don’t even care a little!”

A raised eyebrow emerges from his slump.

Neurotic she must be, her “okay-ness” was just noted.

“I got a new pair of shoes and you didn’t even notice!”

"'Decipher me' is what she really means." Brilliant. You imply that something always underlies nothing. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. And so, very true.

Too bad the majority of men don't get that. Job well done!

beyond that, as a quick aside, what i love about this is the ending. so many good poems, like good books or even songs, simply flounder at the end. they drop off, drop the ball, or limp along. the end is often the best part of the story, poem or song, the part where all your word-work and imagery build-up pay off. you nailed it. would definitely like to see more along this vein!

Thank you. I am a major fan of Charles Bukowsky. Your mentioning of him has earned you special brown.. read more
i have to say this was fantastic, and almost necessary. this is almost my favorite kind of writing to read, that bit of prose that comes out almost out of complete necessity. "Poetry is what happens when nothing else can" was said by Charles Bukowski, and I absolutely agree. this sentiment, the meaning behind "Nothing" seems so simple, so understated, that you have to really read this kind of work to take a step back and not take it for granted. in all honesty, very well written, and, and EXCELLENT point.

Can't say I have EVER done that over a pair of shoes... usually I spew out every damn thing that I'm thinking and the guy wishes he never asked. >:) But when I do say nothing, it's ONCE and only to see his response. But it's whatever. Love this!
