The Race

The Race

A Poem by KillerWithWords
"

Sometimes we feel like we can't go on.

"

From the start you tell yourself no way.

This Battle is far too great,

The road too long.

As you tell yourself these things you think,

FORWARD.

The bends look treacherous.

You feel the ache coming on,

You feel the weak waiting to take over.

As you fight your self-doubt,

FORWARD.

The Race is too long.

Fighting has worn you out.

You Fall to the ground.

Bloody,

Tearstained,

Lost.

There’s no more strength,

FORWARD.

Race till you fall,

FORWARD.

Race till you’ve got nothing inside of you,

FORWARD.

Race for every ounce of passion you’ve ever had,

FORWARD.

Race for whom you love,

FORWARD.

Race for everything you stand for,

FORWARD.

Your identity.

Your Mission.

There is a finish line.

"The Race" is the perfect title for this poem, mainly because it is what this whole poem is about. There may also be another reason. Have you ever thought about this race of yours through your own eyes, as a walk of life. It is a peculiar idea, I know but it makes sense. It's interesting how your first sentence is about the fact that no matter how hard the character tries, they'll never be able to make it. Doubt. It's the greatest ability killer. With the stakes in this poem high and the intensity level still far above that, the first two lines signify that no matter what they are not going to make it to the finish line. FORWARD. Saying this, it's being pushed on the reader. It's heavier when it's in all capitals. If you meant for this extreme intensity, you did a great job! If you didn't, well, you know now. This is bloody, sad, and overall just depressing. I like how you made it smaller at the end, like a shrinking voice in the darkness. In the authors note, I realized that you said Chinee instead of Chinese. Just thought you should know that.
