An ode to the forgotten

An ode to the forgotten

A Poem by M.Kilani

We have forgotten

We have forgotten our names

Our freedom, our sin

All our aches screaming within

We failed not to verdict

We failed to communicate

And we failed to breathe

Skin, we can’t see beneath

And we stopped hiding

We stopped finding

The last humane disease

All for comfort and ease

We have forgotten

Our lives and our death

Grief upon lost life

Grief for lack of our death

Alas, lords of holly grounds

We have brought shame

Hid behind your names

As we silenced our sounds

We have forgotten

And thousand times we have died

For thousand eyes had cried

And we have forgotten

I release you souls of martyrs

Who died to dignify a name

I release you of our shame

For your names are held by murderers

And I grief you once more

At the silence of war

And our disgraceful death

We turn your soil to filth

And we hid behind a button

Claimed to be brave

Awaken in our grave

Yet, we have forgotten.
