Another shade of black

Another shade of black

A Poem by M.Kilani

Another shade of black

Blackness, darkness and sleeplessness

Let there be no light all night and silence

As I crawl back to the playground of my demons

To my darkest of souls I cast them all omens

And black my heart shall be

For black was always me

How could I live in light and welcome fate

When the heart I long for no longer illuminates

And the heart of mine in tar it sinks

Black now it is, black as ink

Make it black, paint it black

As the hearts of men, and goodness they lack

The darkness within don’t hold it back

Better not to see as you walk your own track

Mourn in black, wear it black

Even if broken they won’t see a crack

Walk with no pack, straighten your back

Always prepared for another attack

They killed its last of light

No longer I wish to fight

No longer I will, no longer I can

Too many options to kill a man

Working class hero, that’s first how I died

A common job can kill one’s pride

Corrupted media to mess one’s head

Useless information all we’re fed

A friend, a fellow and an endless need

To stab your passion and watch you bleed

To keep you sane, to keep you sound

Afraid of lonesome you keep them around

Society of majority

Accuse you of blasphemy

All to destroy your wildest dream

Dare you stand up? Dare you scream?

A stroke as you chock

To dwell the years you learn to smoke

As they charge you for their blind of filth

More you smoke and welcome death

A goddess to seek and fell the heart

God-made finest piece of art

Drainer of the soul called soul mate

The one who’s for you’d change your fate

Black it is, as black as her eyes

As black as their greed, as black as their lies

Black is immortal as colors do fade

With time you’ll leave… of black another shade

And in the end if feel like i am in a still body of water in a pitch black space. Swimming to to the screams that are the least painful to hear, running form an enemy that is inescapable, to a savior that does not exist. My body aches for the speaker, for the pain he endures is one i cannot know. A pain that cannot be shared, and makes his aching all the lonelier. I am so, so sorry.

The AA/BB rhyme scheme seems like a strange one for this serious poem--usually poems like this are just free verse--but I think it worked well; the rhymes were good. The mood of this poem is as black as its subject--you did a good job of bringing that through. The social commentary was thought-provoking, although I disagree with some of it...but that's beside the point. You made the poem flow logically without becoming long and muddled, despite its length.

The poem is powerful. I like how you used the word black.
"They killed its last of light
No longer I wish to fight
No longer I will, no longer I can
Too many options to kill a man "
I like the many strong statements in this poem. A very good ending to a excellent poem.
