King of days II

King of days II

A Poem by M.Kilani

Immortal I am, the king, immortal and alone

As years change I age, changes the queen of throne

Immortal; aches my chest crashed under a stone

Sob for a night, weep another, and await another dawn

Seeking; wondering my lands, from Xibalba to Babylon

Older, wiser, immortal, king of days, yet left alone

Seeking her, or death, yet blinded by the crown

Tree of life I truly needs, immortality not for my own

Immortality to the queen, queen of wasteland

A queen who’ll never die, by my side to stand

To rule the ruins of dead, together, hand in hand

Yet time passes me by and the lands turn to sand

Stop seeking and accept death, let it all go

Be cursed, isolated and alone, live it by the law

All wisdom of immortal years still I don’t know

I stand now and await death, for death is the road to awe

Intriguing perspective on the idea of immortality. Here it is presented as a bane instead of a gift, a curse that leads only to loneliness and terrible longing. The depressive sentiments are exceptionally expressed. Well done, and thank you for entering this in the contest...

I'm really liking this piece! When I first started reading I didn't understand what you were getting at but then it hit me. Good metaphor and formatting with the breaks.

Yes, yes... Immortality does sound lonely. I can see how one who had no fear of death would ultimately come to wish for it. What a great work.

:) Ah..so then the Queen is a metaphor...a phenomenal piece....surrender to the moment and accept everything, good and bad :)
