A childhood memory

A childhood memory

A Poem by M.Kilani

I can still hear the air

Drifting through the yellow leaves

As I lay on the branch and stare

As autumn awaits and the summer leaves

Still I can smell the aromas of the jasmine tree

The one we took off the ground

Where we found a thousand bees

And I still remember the sound

The taste of the last peach that I do remember

Sweetness of the whole summer, right under blue sky

How hard was it to reach, to fall then to try

A place to hide from the burning sun of summer

I can still feel the dirt where I buried my first pet

Along with childhood dreams

Where my tears made streams

Where the sparrow has died, and the balls were hit

I can still see them, roses dry and pale

Where I first smoked a cigarette

I still can taste the first smoke to inhale

Yet our voices I do forget.

And now older this place has grown

Our shadows grew as well

Abandoned is my imaginary throne

And the memory is a story to tell.

In regards to your wording and use of language, this is you at your best. In your use of evoking emotion, however, this is downright staggering. Though each person possesses their own unique set of memories, you have taken something specific here and somehow transcended into the realm of the universal, and that is no small feat.

This is very good. The imagery is great, and you explained the memory so beautifully.

I wish to be with you to smell the jasmine trees. I spend many years in the Middle East. The herbs and life style was very good. Here in the USA we could learn to live better and more healthy from other cultures. A beautiful story and memory. We need to hold on to the good memories to tell the next generation of a great people. A excellent poem.

An alluring piece full of wonderful meandering of imagery, sights and sounds. Fall is such a memory provoker. A lovely ambiance of nature and the human experience--thrown and all.
