A childhood memory

A childhood memory

A Poem by M.Kilani

I can still hear the air

Drifting through the yellow leaves

As I lay on the branch and stare

As autumn awaits and the summer leaves

Still I can smell the aromas of the jasmine tree

The one we took off the ground

Where we found a thousand bees

And I still remember the sound

The taste of the last peach that I do remember

Sweetness of the whole summer, right under blue sky

How hard was it to reach, to fall then to try

A place to hide from the burning sun of summer

I can still feel the dirt where I buried my first pet

Along with childhood dreams

Where my tears made streams

Where the sparrow has died, and the balls were hit

I can still see them, roses dry and pale

Where I first smoked a cigarette

I still can taste the first smoke to inhale

Yet our voices I do forget.

And now older this place has grown

Our shadows grew as well

Abandoned is my imaginary throne

And the memory is a story to tell.

In regards to your wording and use of language, this is you at your best. In your use of evoking emotion, however, this is downright staggering. Though each person possesses their own unique set of memories, you have taken something specific here and somehow transcended into the realm of the universal, and that is no small feat.

This was written on a whim. Maybe upon a spark that lit a few candles of reminscince. The first stanzas with all the scents and tastes reminds me so much of sweet brief summers I spent in Amman as a child. You're a writer of thought and strong emotions, but this one captured special colors and has a beautiful tinge. I loved the rhymes in the last stanza. Excellent. I enjoyed very much. Thank you for the read request! 99/100

You really put me into the poem, I could see, hear, feel, smell, and taste everything! This is probably my favorite that I've read by you :)

The walk down memory lane is always one of sweet or bitter return. We remember those things we loved and that are now forever a memory as well as those things we walked away from, onto brighter days. That lane of remembrance is a double edged sword. It brings us smiles through the tears.

Great Ink!

What a wistful picture you paint. You so vividly bring us back to those flashes of innocence, of wonder. being able to grasp those quicksilver memories...It keeps us human. Beautiful...

Hmmm, how voices fade but the meaning still stays, how sights are dull but the taste is still vivid... Lovely write. ^_^
