Misfortune or luck

Misfortune or luck

A Poem by M.Kilani

She could be gone

Gone for ever

Under another sun

Across a raging river

And I could be left alone

A photo in mind and a heart full of words

Tomorrow might have no dawn

And dies my hope upon the swords

And I blame my pride I blame my fear

For words that might never utter

All I wish is for you to be here

And I fear all will break and shatter

All the dreams, that are still unreal

All those timeless nights

All blown along with that veil

Along with those senseless fights

And she went away

So is now so is yesterday

And pain grows as large as the hope

Hanging in the middle with her hair as a rope

Still I can’t cry

I can’t drown in melancholy

I can’t wish to die

Still I can’t smile

I can’t paint a picture

I can’t walk the mile

Between hope and doubt now I’m stuck

Unknown whether it’s misfortune or luck

I love the ending!

Misfortune and luck do exist, but their power over us is commensurate to the energy we give to them. We can well bring on misfortune just by thinking about it. We must always be ever mindful of our attitudes, perspectives, and actions in any given situation. That's what ultimately can turn a set of random circumstances into 'luck' or 'misfortune'. Ultimately, it's our choice. Not an easy thing to achieve, obviously - but it's definitely something we should all strive for.

...
. time has a way of unraveling in a way that many answers are revealed ... yet you write of that quintessential predicament that one can identify with easily ... your words flow as beautifully as your thoughts ...

I love this poem. how it is written is amazing and I love everything about it. The rhyming flows well with the lines, and I love how the first stanza pulls you in, and how the last lines sort of conclude it. The second to last stanza is my definite favorite:

'Still I can’t smile
I can’t paint a picture
I can’t walk the mile'

I'm not quite sure why, but I love that part and it's beautiful to me. This whole entire poem is beautiful, truthfully. :)

Misfortune or luck? Sometime they can fall together. A close door can open up a new door of life. The poem is very good. The description made the world you create come alive. A outstanding poem.

Powerful emotion. It explores the emotional ambiguity we can face after suffering a moment of great turmoil. Not the easiest thing to put into words, but you've done it very well. Reading this gave me a feeling of melancholy, and not alot of poems do inspire emotion in me. I tip my cap to you, sir.
