Ode To Gaza

Ode To Gaza

A Poem by M.Kilani
"

This poem was written on the night of the Israeli attack on Gaza on Dec.2008 Publish in the book : Jordan Poetry: The Departure

"

City under siege … what have they done

Full of F16 is the sky …. They blocked the sun

Oh city over sea … what more can you handle

Still we stand and all we can we do is share a stupid candle

Bounded we are … dear city under sky

I screamed for your name … and from tear gas now I cry

Oh Gaza with words to ease your pain I try

Those without swords upon swords may die

Fight and don’t fall wait for another dawn

Fight and stand tall you shall take them down

Dear sons of Gaza for you I weep

If sleepless I was... now I cry to sleep

Run to the light at the end of this cave

Fill your earth with a grave next to a grave

Your freedom they may take

Sunlight your eyes may forsake

But never can they make you a slave

Blood and honor you have gave

Oh God your mercy we ask we beg and pray

May Gaza’s suffering end up today

And still we watch and still we cry

How much longer can we refuse and deny

Beautiful heartfelt piece. Very well written, good strong imagery and poetic tools. I also support freedom in Gaza, and have blooged about it considerably. Israhell is an apartheid government bent on total annihilation and needs to be stopped. You showed the human side of this terrible tragedy. Very well done!!

This moved me to tears....oh...I fear I cannot properly say...how You twist the pain into beautiful words...how I feel the senselessness of war...how moved I am..

Indeed love! Agree!
This is truly moving love!
The suffering will only stop when humanity takes a stand and rises up with non complaince to the powers that be rules! "Let us all accept the white feather" - no more war!
Great work love!

How blessed when politics and corruption come into play,
I too mourn for the Gaza strip :(

I screamed for your name … and from tear gas now I cry - very powerful line.

I listen to NPR, and had chance to hear a story about Gaza. It was the story of an Israeli woman and a Palestinian man that became friends in the US. I felt bad for them, because they were as...enemies...when they returned home. The woman felt bad; it was apparent in her interview... Her best friend in the world, unable to travel at will, unable to leave the Gaza strip, unable to work... While I admire the strength of the Israeli government, this poem reminds me of why I could never support them. Especially as they are being used to bring about the End.

This is meaningful, and perhaps should be spread. What life we waste in battles over land, and taking away freedom, when all we had to do was live, and love. Preach on, and may the Almighty see them whole who waste away in Gaza.

War and conquest are prevalent throughout history. Who are the victims? Rarely the leaders. More often the sons and daughters. Are those victems ever given the full truth of what they are fighting for? Very rarely. Well written.

In the West, we rarely get to hear what people living in Gaza and the surrounding areas are feeling, seeing. You have opened up your part of the world to the rest of us. When we may have thought things were simply bad, you've shown them to be desperate. When we know things are sad, you show us they are depressed. When we hear of the fear, you have shown us terror. Thank you for being the fearless voice of Gaza!

I couldn't agree more, I have few Jew friends who are not so radical, we get along when we leave both politics and religion aside, they refuse that injustice as well, after all we are human, we are alike if we undress our ethnic, political, and religious customs, we are the same if we are free.

Your words are true. I have many friends from the Middle East. I spend 5 years roaming the beautiful and wonderful Arabic world. Never met a man or woman who was cold to me. Your poetry need to be blasted out to the world. I wrote of the deeds of Israel to people protecting the innocence in Gaza. Your poem state fact. I have met many Jews who survived the concentration camps of Germany. They are confused by the hate and desire of the Israel leadership. Hate for Germany I could understand. Jews and Arabic people have been living in the Middle East for a long time. Need to stop the killing.
