Pointless philosophy on pointlessnessA Chapter by M.KilaniA stream of consciousness with emotions put asideI had this rush of thoughts before I went to bed, I was mad when I wrote it, anger can really push one into letting things out; my first thought was about science, many people are proud for being scientists, but what good did this science do? Yes it has made new things for us to use, utilities, medications, economy, politics and many other things, but are they really good, are they useful, do they have an ultimate benefit... the answer is no, and it will be always no until the end of time, each is only an approach to reduce the pointlessness of life, no medicine made a human immortal, no utilities made the human perfect, no economy made human content or satisfied, and no politics made human free.... everything is just another placebo to distract us from our pointless existence, I'll leave my emotions aside in this piece and state only facts, truth that is hard for us to bear, those exact thoughts run into my head every waking hour, yet I join the sheep and distract myself from them. NOTE: Nothing is original in what I'm stating, some facts, theories or thoughts might be mentioned in other places, some books and movies, but I try not to refer to them us much as possible to keep minimum influence of other humane factors, which are by default carried to this very day, nothing is original in the first place. Some think life is all about the moments of happiness we make, well it's not, happiness is a state of mind, it's not ultimate nor granted, it varies from one to another, it varies even to the same person, and it's relative, the same amount of happiness varies from one individual to another, as well as for the same person if repeated, no one will feel the same amount of happiness twice in life, neither preserve happiness. Others think life is all about achievement, what you make, what you leave behind and what will give you a better future, putting feelings aside, it is totally pointless, you spend plenty of time using information carried and taught by others, with tools made by others for others to use, and after that you'll be dead, your achievement will not follow you, it might be of benefit for your family, but there's nothing in it for you once you are gone, even if for yourself it is pointless, you'd be making an achievement that benefits no one but yourself. Others believe life is about the people you know, friends, family, lovers and acquaintances, the memory you leave with them; people forget, others remember things differently, others don't feel the same about those memories and relations, and at the end you die, they die and all what is lift would be grave stones, few pictures and some useless belongings... life wasted without solid achievement. Many believe life is about belief, by that I mean religion, or proving the existence of god, I myself believe that there is a creator, and I know many will disagree, but technically everything was made out of absolutely nothing even void, so there is a creator, (look up the meaning of "create" in a dictionary) but is this creator a god? Is it an entity that has a will? I'd say yes, we are creatures we are entities and we have will, we're not only a biological existence, a carbon-based organic forms of life, there for what created us has an entity and a will to create us, the difference is that god is infinite, but is that god so religious? This matter is relative it varies from person to another, which ironically makes god as a concept a creating, a virtual yet unseen, paranormal existence in which we interpret in our own minds, creating our belief, hence our behaviors and actions, I broke down the barriers of my own belief to state this very own belief, WHAT A PARADOX!! I know. George Orwell wrote in his book 1984:“Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.” God as a concept is what we create, it's a reflection of our inner need to have something superior which we made to convince ourselves that there is more, of course there is more, but what good of it after death? And here comes religion, the manual of making a life system that claims happiness after death, in my belief I think everyone should have a creed or a religion, regardless to the fact which religion is right, not because I defend religion, I never did, but even atheism is a creed, all religions are made to make-believe that there is a big picture behind our existence and that it's not pointless at all, including rituals and worships to distract us from that fact, and to bring us closer to this ultimate power, yet “The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.” as Soren Kierkgaard said, prayers rather control, limit and ease our minds, while believing that there is no god can lead the individual to insanity, even if proven by facts and numbers, knowing that nothing is 100% true, accepting it is a matter of surrender to facts, turning human into a slave of calculations and information made by human itself, knowing that the margin of human error is wide, leading to an infinite loop of research, to prove that we came out of nothing, which is basically spending a lifetime proving the pointless of living and nothingness at the same time. Many others spend their life being free, making their decisions upon free will, they spend their lives in search of ultimate freedom, which is impossible, and even if possible; unbearable, to be free of time, space, matter, emotions, needs and senses, ultimate freedom is by my opinion death, there is nothing such as ultimate freedom, even too much freedom can be as terrifying as death, as Soren Kierkgaard said "Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom." Freedom itself isn't happiness though “The choice for mankind lies between freedom and happiness and for the great bulk of mankind, happiness is better.” according to George Orwell, and I've said enough about happiness already. Knowledge and experience on the other hand is a goal for many, as if the accumulated human knowledge isn't already used or overused, even of one makes a new discovery it is completely not original; it's based on information transferred through time with extra additives from different fields or approach, only statements about what we assemble, observe, test and mutate, new inventions are updates of old ones, there is nothing created by human except for thoughts and words, even that is limited by language. Everything exists already, we only manipulate what we know and utilize it to assemble something new, to experience something new which we transfer into knowledge, which ironically varies from a field to another, from an approach to another and from a person to another, only to create things and words to occupy our minds distract us of the sad reality... which is the pointlessness of our existence. Art on the other hand is another tool of blinding ourselves from that, the use elements to express emotions, imaginary, history, and sometimes reality to gain heart over mind control to convince ourselves that there is beauty all around, while all what we encounter is thoughts interpreted into objects, images and sounds in disparate attempts to express emotions as no two people can have the same level of emotions, or emotions realization. Finally there are many like me, who combine all these perspectives, tools or approaches to come up with some balance because taking any of these methods to run away from reality to the extreme is destructive and can turn human easily against his nature, which is a combination of paradoxes. I myself wrote this in a disparate attempt to distract myself from this pointlessness, I name it philosophy, because that it self is pointless, I didn't aim to create depression with what I stated, nor a pessimistic influence by that, I accept all these facts and beliefs, and more over I accept the fact that I don't know everything, and I can be proven wrong easily, which is something I secretly wish for.
