Behold

Behold

A Poem by M.Kilani

Lay me down in holy smoke

Let them spirits of sin talk

Lay me down into bloody river

Awe has taken, awe is a giver

Dance night upon my dying soul

Bleed me wolves of moonlight

Lay me dead in peace tonight

For I can’t betray them all

Find peace my godless mind

Run into wilderness, run into the wild

And spare me signs that they believe

I read them signs written on leaves

Token my eyes Clytemnestra and Helen

For I have seen god in her eyes

Float my body as the soul dies

And meet me in the gardens of Aiden

Find rest my wicked heart

Trouble you were from the very start

The purest of man has made man ill

Life of mortals I bed you farewell

River Charon unwelcomes me

And the toll I’ve paid in pride

And the secret is yet to be told

As I awake from death, I hear ‘behold’
