Chapter 1

 Be helped or be saved

The barrel of the gun was cold and hard as it pressed against his temple, his finger resting on the trigger deciding if it should pull or not. Sweat started to make its way down his face and onto the barrel as it drips onto the dark rug. His eyes were closed and showed strain. The trigger started to move then all of a sudden… the door buzzed, he released his breath and opened his eyes. He sat looking at the Holographic screen phone while still holding the gun to his head; he moves the gun away and slowly places it onto the circular coffee table that sat in front of him. He places the phone into the phone slot and presses the screen button; the holographic screen that shaded his face blue, turned off as the blue light that emitted from it placed his face in darkness. He stands and walks over to the buzzer and swipes his bionic finger across the scanner.

‘Yeah’ Sebastian said in a tired voice.

‘Nate, its Goya’ his partner’s voice was deep.

Nate ran his bionic finger over the scanner next to the answer button and made his way over to the chair that was placed in darkness in front of the window. He scanned his finger over a flat remote control to open the blinds, as they retracted; an instant brightness filled the room with all the colors of the rainbow. His dog Max, a cockle spaniel jumped onto his lap and looked at him with its bionic eyes and then put his head back down on his lap closing them. Nate had Max’s eyes done when he was a puppy, Max was blind when born and with Nate having access to the new technology, he could give him his eye sight back. They were all white which was a standard color, and would often glow like cats eyes when light was signed on them at night.

Nate lit a cig and took a few puffs as he relaxed back into his chair looking at the city of Axphyllia in front of him. Lifting up the ears of max and rubbing them between his human fingers on his left hand. Nate glanced outside at the balcony and watched the bright vibrant world of Axphyllia grasp him, a huge billboard hovered with an advertisement for a new face treatment that gives people the youth for a day, it was an electronic device that is injected under the chin near your ear that sends out an electric pulse that tightness the face, it was crazy really, even people in their 20’s where using it, but it was advised just for older people with shagging skin. The whole city was like that, new advancements, new things being brought in to stay that one step ahead of the rest of the world. Money was pumped into Axphyilla than any other city and it had one of the highest paid jobs around, especially the ones that worked inside the huge skyscrapers that towered into the night sky, touching the stars.

Nate took another puff of his cig and rested his head back onto the chair, a bright light shot through the room as a police drone hovered in front of the window then disappeared, they were used all around the city, and where the eyes for the surveillance team to monitor the city better, they could go everywhere but it made it hard to commit crime in Axpyhilla, but it didn’t stop it, there was still your drugs and petty muggings going on here, even murder, one guy killed another because of a mix up with his X-Cypher, they were a hand held devise that everybody used, it was a phone, camera, a sat navigation, it told you about the news and contained your DNA that you had to use to enter any shop or any building, money was no longer a use, everything was on your X-Cypher. The police had every bodies DNA on the X-Cypher so they could keep tabs on them, papers and magazines didn’t exist here as everything was electronic, writing was banned on paper but electronic pads with an electronic pen was used. Everything was monitored but like anything in the world, there was always around these kinds of things, there were hackers that could bypass their X-Cyphers. Trying to hack into others and steal money, change their identity so they could try and get into the big companies like Zenaform, a company that is full of scientists that create the new world that has been created here, they are the company that build the bionics that the agents of Axphyilla use. The hackers that a few have been caught are especially interested in Zenaform; they want to know what they are doing, what actually goes on there. but in reality they kept people like Nate and the other agents one step ahead of the rest, they were the only people to have these upgrades to enhance themselves, makes it easy for them to tackle any tough situations. Like Nate's finger that was blown off by some crazy person who couldn’t get to grips with the technology, was paranoid that they watched everybody 24 hours a day and that no one had any privacy. Nate tried to calm him down when he pulled a Sonic Raptor out and shot his finger off, the Sonic Raptor was a small gun that only guards used in shops and buildings, they send out a pulse that knocks anybody on the floor and stuns them, but at such a close range can cause serious damage, as Nate found out, Zenaform made a bionic finger for Nate that worked better than his human finger, he could fire quicker and it felt more flexible. Just like every agent, upgrades are welcome to all Agents that want them. Bionic brain implants to make you think faster, legs to make you run faster, arms that give you strength, accuracy with a gun, eyes like max to help you see better, even Goya, Nate’s partner has them fitted that helps him identify objects, as most things have chips in them, everything is picked up straight away and can be identified, they also come with x-ray vision. Technology was far in advance from the rest of the world here in Axphyllia, and with a population of around 200,000 maybe more, it was an experience to be in this place as it was one of the most places people wanted to visit, but coming here from the outside comes at a price, and preparation is in order, to set up a X-Cypher for anyone entering, they had to trust the city with all their personal details to be allowed in here.
