From Whatnot to Where I Belong

From Whatnot to Where I Belong

A Poem by Melissa Ridge

Let me cast out my hook
One last time, before I forget
Just one more look
I will remember you

Time feels different now
Without you
Without my pictures
I can’t help feel I’m forgetting you

You lifted the veil away from my face
Do you remember our wedding day?
Oh, the pictures are wonderful
You wore that pink tie!

The dust is on the shelves
Oh, no don’t you worry;
I’ll fix it, I’ll fix it!
Only our smiles, disguised in years
It was love, you know

It gets dark so quickly now
Where have you gone to?
We used to sit on the loveseat in winter
You remember that, don’t you?

We used to sit on the loveseat in winter
Under the blanket watching...
You’ve been gone an awfully long time
I don’t like this place, where are you?

I don’t dream anymore
I used to dream about you, you know
That picture of us standing in front of the house
Yes, I’ve dreamt about that, remember?

It gets dark so quickly now
I don’t remember it ever getting this dark before
Do you?
As long as I see you, I will be okay

It feels like I’ve been asleep
But I can’t remember dreaming
I remember you though
You are the memories that I keep

I belong with you
