Fear

Fear

A Poem by Melissa Ridge

Obsesses and possesses
Seizes the heart
Turns mouth to dust
Hairs stand on end

Breaths chased too quick
Muscles slowly paralyze
Doubt seeping
Delusions alluding

Sounds taunt
Skin sweats
Twists gut
Clenches stomach

Fingers and toes numb with cold
Mistrust in sanity

Waiting

Waiting

Fight or flight
And pray it does not catch you.
