Going Down Slow

Going Down Slow

A Poem by Einstein Disguised As Robin Hood

Cigarettes on the sidewalk, I can’t hear the radio. Train cars keep yelling, but they’re moving much to slow. If you’re looking for a love in vain, I’ll be your Rimbaud. Oh, don’t you know, we’re going down slow. I met you last night after the faulty false alarm. We swing danced all night and I held you in my arms. As we departed I went and played the piano. Oh, don’t you know, I’m going down slow. Well, David and Goliath, they left the lion’s den. As they hit the city, they became the best of friends. And Romeo and Juliet, they have no place to go. Oh, don’t you know, they’re going down slow. Now, the tramps and the troubadours, walk with a sinner’s pride. The jokers in the carnival with hazy glazed eyes. And the Downtown clowns are all dressed in Day-Glo. Oh, don’t you know, they’re going down slow. The homecoming queen she was caught in a trance, By the vagabond sailor, she skipped the high school dance. And nobody knows where she’ll be tomorrow. Oh, one things for sure, she’ll be going down slow.

This is so beautifully written, this stanza sold me on this poem. You did a fantastic job on not just the way you described everything but the way your stanza perfectly off-set one another.
