Winding path and reaching hands

Winding path and reaching hands

A Poem by Kiari Sabon

In friendship did we walk.
Side by side up winding paths in hopes of a better life.
At the top reaching a cliff’s edge of love and despair,
Able to pivot one way or another,
And taking that risk did we put our backs on either side,
Reaching for each other’s hands,
But shadowed figures did claw us apart,
And you fell in anger and I in despair and agony.
Do you realize you are falling or do you believe that rush to be you rising?
I know I am falling and only hope to hit the bottom,
And hit the jagged rocks below.
To end the cold that has come to my mind and soul,
From the rush of this endless descent.
Hoping to hasten my fall I have pushed away all things,
And people near me isolating myself, cutting my bonds.
But though I fall I hope your anger will fall in time for your hand to reach mine,
And save us both but I look to my impenetrable doom,
And close my eyes to the iced wind that is my numbed skin,
And await the piercing of rocks.
