Chapter 4: happy birthday fears

Chapter 4: happy birthday fears

A Chapter by Kiari Sabon

When July 4th came we celebrated my birthday on it like always even though it was the next day. It was hot and sunny. I remember opening a toy golf set yellow carrier, white balls and pink and blue handles on the plastic golf clubs. Shortly after opening them I saw a glow from the cemetery near my house, ball of flaming energy. It was yellow and red. Everyone gathered cheerfully around the cake calling me to make a wish, they were all apparently oblivious to the orb. It shot from the graveyard at us, everyone saw it then. Suddenly the world paused and it was night time. Clouds and stars loomed over us. I asked if they had seen it and what it was. Everyone looked at me as if I was mad. I dared not mention it had just been in the middle of the day. Truly none of them remembered. To this day I don’t know what that was or what happened and still feel the haunting emptiness of its importance.
