Chapter 8

Hei

Sigh… I can’t believe that I have to go out and find a job, and pretend to be normal. They don’t get it. I’m not normal. In a rage of fury I punch a nearby tree. It bends and the outer shell gives. A giant hole is all that remains.I stare at it and think. See that's why. I could really damage someone. But then my anger dissolves and I began to think about her. Maybe I will see her again. I would kind of like to. Forget It! I’m a monster. I shouldn’t see her.

I walked down the street, checking windows for help wanted signs. I walked into each store. I read the billboards for flyers for any odd jobs. But there was nothing. How hard is it to find a job in this town?  The last shop I checked was the bookstore. It was the last place I saw her. Maybe she was here. No, I can’t think of that. I walked in and the doorbell rang as I opened the door. I look around but it seemed that nobody was there. I looked around for their billboard.

“Hello, How may I help you?” I turned and saw a little old woman. She was short and stout. Her hair was gray with wisps of purple in it and she had it up in a bun. And she wore her glasse on a chain around her neck.

“Um yes, I was wondering if you knew of any jobs available in this town?” I waited for her reply. Hoping that this time I found something. She walked to her counter and opened a drawer. She pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to me.

“This place is looking for a handyman. Are you good and fixing things and can chop wood and lift heavy objects?” I nodded and she smiled. “Good. I’m sure you will do great there. The woman who runs it is very kind, there is also an offer of a room for you to stay in. And they do serve you food too. The pay is good.” She smiled.

“Thankyou. Now where is it located?” She gave me a map and was instructing me where to go, when another old lady stepped out there small parlor. The woman helping me looked up and greeted the other.

“Oh Mrs. Danny, This young man here is looking for help and I just told him about your opening.” Mrs. Danny the woman who had come from the parlor nodded and smiled.

“Well I did just hire a young man for the job,” She paused and thought for a moment, “But I am getting older these days and we could use all the help. So sonny, I guess you are hired.” She smiled real big and she took my hand and shook it vigorously. This woman is getting older? Acts like she's still full of energy and strength, I noted as she was crushing my hand. She offered to show me the way. I turned to say goodbye to the other woman.

“Goodbye and thank you Miss…..?”

“Miss Jill.” She smiled sweetly.

“Thanks Miss Jill.” I turned to leave. Opening the door, I stepped out and was half dragged by Mrs. Danny.

As Hei left, Miss Jill giggled with joy. Such a cute boy, she thought.

“Won’t Tila be surprised to see him.” Hei had no idea that the girl he thought he had given up on seeing ever again, would be the one he would be seeing shortly. Nor imagine how much his life will change when she becomes apart of it.
