I began this poem shortly after my son passed away in Dec of ‘21 but am just now really “finishing” it. Hope you enjoy.
- In the dwelling of my mind, a heavy clambering stirs,
Fading whispers of a forgotten self, and a smile that once was hers.
- A soul once clad with laughter, a gleam that lit the night,
Became the tempest that hovered shadows, hidden far from sight.
- Through and through the depths of my soul, I seek that familiar face,
Yearning even deeper still, to revisit that joyous place.
- Where did I go when I left, when did the world become so cold?
Garnered silently with my own wreckage, my story remaining untold.
- My inner voice now shouting at me, louder than ever before,
Will I ever meet with ‘her’ again, if only just once more?
- I close my eyes, attempt to breathe, while letting go of the pain,
I dry my tears, cleanse my soul to wipe away the stain.
- A prayer for reunion with her somewhere, someday, if only just one time more,
So we can carry on living our dream in euphoria, like we did once before.
What tragic beauty here, Kate. What an experience, what pain...
How you're still able to put emotions before you, face the echoes of such a precious but past life is - extraordinary and without equal.
'- I close my eyes, attempt to breathe, while letting go of the pain,
I dry my tears, cleanse my soul to wipe away the stain.
- A prayer for reunion with her somewhere, someday, if only just one time more,
So we can carry on living our dream in euphoria, like we did once before '
Perhaps that reunion, albeit as is, is every moment you think of your daughter, not only because you must.. but, you do so with a precious pride in 'her' who will always gently linger until- the Light shines even brighter.
