The Legend Of A Hitman

The Legend Of A Hitman

A Story by KateH038

I wrote this, I guess one would call it a short story, for/about my friend, David. It's not finished. I feel that I've left something out in the middle. Opinions welcomed.

The Legend Of A Hitman
At what age does "life" really begin? I suppose it's different for everyone.... It all depends on where and how you were raised, even who you're raised by. Me? I'll start you off from where it matters most. My name is David. Take a walk with me and a glimpse into my life, the legend of a hitman....
I was grown before becoming an adult. Many aspects in my life didn't allow for me to do much else other than leave the boy I once was so many years ago, behind for the man I was forced into becoming. At the age of 17, the streets, the struggle, the grind, they called to me. With the hustle and grind, I became the man everyone wanted to befriend but few were friends with - not the type of friend you'd want to keep around. I fell victim to the fast life, the easy, quick money.... It wasn't the smartest move to make but selling weed and crack cocaine kept food on my table. It also taught me the difference between knowing somebody and having somebody. Knowing me? I was on the path to self-discovery and just didn't know it yet. Having me? I knew for certain that I didn't have to worry about letting me down, unlike most others and that's all there was to it.
In my search for me, I found myself enlisting in the military - the US army took me in at the tender age of 18. Fresh off the chopping block, I thought I knew and was ready for it all and my respect for discipline, superiority was near nonexistent. Less than 6 months into my contract with Uncle Sam, my card was dealt and I was sent overseas to a foreign land - the Panama Canal with only a mere 16 weeks of basic training at fort Benning Georgia. I suppose with any man, no matter age or experience, being tossed into the jungle, it'll plant a seed of change somewhere within you and before you realize it, you're already well on your way to becoming a new man.
After serving my country, I returned home or what I was certain at one point, was once home, only to realize how much had changed, myself included. Looking back now, with a mind that isn't so foggy, beyond the fights, brawls and knock down drag outs, past the bitter, lonesome, fearful moments of my life overseas, through the fast life, hustle and the gangs of the rough streets, one thing stands out and it cannot be overlooked or missed - I've survived it all. I've come out on top and am here to tell about it. You can't stop me... it's not my time to give it a rest and I'll raise hell till I go out with a final bang before leaving this world. This is my story...to be continued. I am the legend and the hitman.

So much of what the narrator says is familiar to me, especially the part about returning from the military and finding everything, including yourself, changed. Of course things were different in my time, and drugs weren't so prevalent. (Just weed) This story is going well so far.
