Rare BirdA Poem by Khant Zin HeinThere was a rare bird in my heart that wanted to get out.
There was a rare bird in my heart
that wanted to get out. But I was too tough for him. I said, stay in your place. I won’t let anybody see you. There was a rare bird in my heart that wanted to get out. But I was too tough for him. I built the great wall in my heart So, nobody knew that he’s in there. There was a rare bird in my heart that wanted to get out. But I was too tough for him. I built the great pyramid in my heart and I said, stay inside. I won’t let anybody see you. There was a rare bird in my heart that wanted to get out. I asked myself again and again. “Why couldn’t I let him out?” “Why did I make the great wall & great pyramid to hide him?” I didn’t know why. There was a rare bird in my heart that wanted to get out. But I was too clever, I only let him out at night when everybody’s asleep. He said, “He will come back!” That night was lovely, dark and deep. He had promise to keep. But he decided to leave. It’s nice enough to make a man weep. But I didn’t weep. Do you? Now there isn’t a rare bird in my heart that wants to get out.
