The jailor grunted as he pulled the iron door open, the screeching sound of the metal grating against the stone floor was enough to make the Sky Pirate wince. Briefly looking at the list that he had clutched in his hand, Travesty knew he was doing the right thing. To anyone else the idea was preposterous; the person he wished to recruit was a considered to be a demon. Regardless of popular belief, he knew this man from his own childhood. They were of an age and their fathers had insisted that they meet at least once in their life time. It had not been an unpleasant experience. Travesty just wondered if he remembered.

Cecie remained quiet for most of the walking; her timid glances were aimed at the snarling men around her. Not for the first time in her life, she regretted being able to read the emotions of the people around her. It was a part of her inherent ability; she could see parts of a person’s soul, just by casually gazing at them. Icy blue eyes pierced through the aura of every inmate in the jail... each one growing darker and darker the more they walked. Cecie held tightly to Travesty’s hand, his aura shone like a white beacon of light. Even though he was a caring man, his heart would never rival that of the King. The ruler of Awe had the brightest light that the young mage had ever seen. “Keep her close, you’re entering the dangerous area of the cells now... rogue mages.” The jailor said as he paused briefly at a reinforced metal door that had numerous locks.

As the door swung open, the darkness enveloped Julian. There were hardly any lights and the main difference between this row of cells and the last was that the first group of inmates were shouting and screaming, trying to get attention and scare anyone that was foolish enough to listen to them. These inmates however were a different breed of criminal. Mages that lost their path, disgraced royalty and in some cases beings that scare the skies themselves. The jailor walked to the end of the corridor and stared into the blackness. The main reason the place was so scary was due to the quietness. Nobody spoke. Upon seeing the last cell, Cecie gasped. Never before had she witnessed such a thing. Pulsing bars of white light encased the man in the cell. Pure magic surrounded him. But not just that, there were chains made of smoke that wrapped around his entire body, keeping whatever powers he possessed at bay.

“Bad man, very... bad man!” Cecie pleaded with Julian, pulling at his hand in an effort to make him leave the cells. Travesty however took another step forward and stared into the cell, “You remember me don’t you?” A raspy voice answered his question in a mocking tone, “You still dress like a dandy.” Julian smiled at the answer and looked at Cecie encouragingly. The young woman frowned back at the sky pirate, she tried to look past the chains binding the man, tried to find some good but... “Stop it!” The shadowed figure snapped, causing the girl to jump. The voice continued, “Julian... why did you bring a channel monk here?” Travesty frowned, “What are you talking about, she’s a white mage.” The voice however just began to laugh humourlessly, “I’ve been here a very long time, I haven’t forgotten what magic is. I don’t think that will ever be possible for someone like me, no matter how I try. She’s a channel monk.” Julian began to protest, but the voice returned once again, “...she can see my chains.”

Cecie jumped at the words, never before had anyone noticed her probing auras, but to be able to notice something like that... obviously they were dealing with a magic user, and a powerful one by the sound of it. “I need her here.” Julian said with a smile as he started to fumble around within his jacket, searching for a particular piece of parchment. The voice however continued to speak, “She’s quite gifted if she can see the chains, especially at such a young age...”

Cecie didn’t appreciate his mocking tone and opened her mouth to defend herself, but she was cut off again. “For example, if you were older, you’d have already noticed the second set of chains.” The shadow laughed. Julian raised an eyebrow at this and looked to Cecie for some form of explanation, but all he saw was horror written all over her face. She stared at Travesty with a look of fear and said in a quivering tone, “He’s....He’s stronger...than me!”

Julian looked into the cell once more before he handed a scroll to the Jailor, which he began to read aloud. Cecie looked to the scroll in confusion. The man started to speak confidently, yet his voice started to break as he realised the meaning behind the words. “In accordance to the King’s wishes, a prisoner of Travesty’s choice is to be released from solitary confinement and granted a full pardon in exchange for the prisoner’s agreement to become a crew member on Travesty’s sky ship...” Julian was grinning from ear to ear as he listened to the remainder of the text. “The prisoner in question is to be released immediately and freed from any magical binds that may affect him or her. After the prisoner serves their time aboard the ship, they will be able to continue life as a free citizen of the realm... The prisoner named by Travesty is the former Sky Pirate, Alexis J. Khance.”

Cecie screamed as a lean figure slammed against the bars, a white smile amidst a silver goatee grinned at Travesty, “When do I start?”

Ahh! SO GOOD!

I LOVE your character! The way you make Cecie scared of him was so real. Hell, he scared me! Especially at the end when he slammed against the bars. Khance is such a creep but very intriguing...I can't wait to find out more about him!!!

Always,
-Aurelia ♥
