Stand UP and Be COUNTED

Stand UP and Be COUNTED

A Poem by Kathryn Star, Shine!
"

A poem written for a contest... for our freedom.

"

War rages

Lives are taken,

What is the purpose

When in the end we all lose

Fighting for oil, money and power,

Not that it's the people's war

It's the Elites

How many more have to die

Before we stop the insanity that engages both sides

America was built on honor

Not for world domination

Oh my friend how nice you say it..
America was built on honor, not domination.when will this war ever end
How you look so beautifully American,The America I used to know
I used to sing the American dream with you since I was just a youth
This is not the America that I used to know..Its the elites..how many more have to die
How I loved this ,how the truth is always so beautiful..
lovely write..

Most of this does follow my line of thinking, but not all of it. For example, the suggestion that America is seeking "world domination". Pause to think about that remark, my fellow readers. I have heard it before (many times), so it is also a cliche. Furthermore, I would rather see more American influence, not less of it! Particularly, to help prevent Islamic extremism from spreading. In addition, I am far more impressed with American influence in the world, than that of the undemocratic European Union (EU)! I accept by the way, that some of you will not share these views.

Now, the claim of "world domination" from America, can also be unterpeted in different ways. Some of which, are actually positive (e.g. promoting feee trade and liberty). Furthermore, it is not quite the same as claiming "world influence", or simply saying that America is very influential in the world. I am sure that you will understand the points which I am expressing, here?

The first two lines of this poem state two facts, which are so obvious that nobody would dispute them. As for the values which I share in the poem, I would agree with Kathryn that America was "built on honour". Furthermore, I think she is right to remind us that elies seem to be making all of the key decisions (rather than ordinary people). Do you agree, perhaps?

"When in the end we all lose". Well, try telling that to a family who lost a relative to the former Iraqi Government! Also, Iraq will almost certainly become more successful in different ways, now that America has rescued the people from a cruel dictatorship. Again, some of you readers will not agree with my views, but I do accept that. Feel free to express what you think about these issues, fellow readers?

Thankyou for submitting another piece of writing for my Contest, Kathryn!
