you have a way with words that allows the reader to becomepartof the moment and see through the eyes
the parents, the police and the unfortunate victim, but more so this speaks itself asd the deepest of
meanings by reflecting the way chemicals invented by corporate play havok on the natural body's way of
dealing with every day emotions, this is a clear exampleof how the side effects outweigh the benefit,
its sad, real, vivid, passionately scribed in form, with dynamic feature in pure subtlety, brilliant work.
this was very emotional and deep. too many children fall victim to things such as this. it was true and cold, but in this case that works. well done. wonderful write.
I want to indeed do justice on this piece...it is dear to me and sadly as a society, forgotten by many...we can often be told of something but have it shoved down our throats much like those miserable pills only to find we have choked ourselves...please continue to bring awareness on all levels and be blessed!
Wow. You know it's funny, I used to be on meds too. I was on celexa, which was considered the second best, uh, happy pill on the market at the time. But I remember feeling so repressed, like even though my mood seemed even there was something brewing just under the surface.
This really summed up a lot of feelings I had while I was on the meds.
this is what happened to me - only, i was able to overcome how it fucked me up, before the blade cut too far into my throat.
i have no idea what possesses adults to do that - f**k up their kids, make them more presentable to society if it will kill them. this is also why i'm an abuse and kid activist - if you try to screw over those poor kids, wreck their innocence and destroy their moral being and life then you're dead. to me.
the sickest thing about this is that some people actually find this funny, as though it is 'ok' to f**k over those kids, to prove who is the weaker of the two - a beaten, assaulted rabbit or an armed, shield clad knight.
who is the stronger - those that stand each time they fall or those that hide behind societys laws.
a very inspiring and touching piece.
thank you for sharing it.
It seems the panacea of the last 40 years is to medicate rather than deal with it. This story, although a story, has played out in reality several times until they decided that certain pills are bad for teens. Really? Ya think? Mood altering drugs in a teen that is going through hormone imbalance ... kid to adult in 5 short years. So you think that is bad? How is it that the FCC and the FTC are allowing TV commercials of products that have a longer list of 'side effects' than they do of helpful effects? My favorite was .... and in some rare cases sudden death occurred... Oh yes, line me up for some of that!!! NOT!!!
KS- good write. Thought provoking. I'm sorry I soap-boxed for a moment.
I concur! I have a 15 year old stepson, who has been on and off of Lithium for years. Yes, he is hyper. Yes, he can be an a*s. He's a freaking teenager! They are supposed to be that way! Have we all become so removed from reality that we can no longer remember what it's like to be a teenager? It's a horrible stage in life, but one we all must go through un-medicated, in order to learn how to deal with stress in our adult lives. Damn the drug companies for force feeding our children drugs! Why can't they just let them be kids?!
I agree. Wouldn't believe how many pills I've been prescribed in the past month... after my discharge from the hospital... Really does alter the mind. Nice write nontheless =)
I was telling my son just last night about the time 25 years ago when there were no drug ads on television.
Unfortunately our love of money, which is the root of all evil, is far more important to our society the the life of one 12 year old girl.
There are 9 words that appear in every drug ad that are the most harmful and should be banned...
"Ask your doctor if XXXXXXX is right for you."
The doctor has to decide between losing a patient if they say "No" and giving them the drug. To make it harder on the doctors, they are rewarded by the drug company if they say "Yes."
Simply banning those 9 carefuly crafted words from the ads along with harmless words already banned like S***, F***, C***, etc ... would begin to save lives immediately!
Simple solutions would be for example, taxing every drug ad shown and using the money to fund general health & diet ads encouraging check-ups, proper eating, etc. with no mention of the sponsor. This would address the concerns that Phoenix has.
Doing drugs and taking medication overdoses, can make people loose their minds somtimes. Thats why you should never do anything like that. Nice job on really stating alot of the true things that happen when your on drugs itll help people become more aware of them. Also, very nice poem.
