Base Two InterviewA Poem by Kevin 454I wrote this in reaction to showing up several times for job interviews and being told to take a computer personality assessment to determine if a second interview will take placeAlone, no other
person in the room Across the desk
sits the lifeless monitor The assayer of
my personality, faceless and flat Artificially
reacts only to a charge, Sent
from manmade pluses, The
key strokes my hand enters Entries that change
the shapes and images Into a hundred
questions The answers to
which are absolute Allowing no
subtlety, nuance, inflection or emotion Reduced to black
on white A dot in the
radio button Sends the
current to make a particular combination On and off, off
and on Go and no go, ten
thousand times One one zero,
zero zero one, one zero one zero one My reason, self
and identity Reduced to a
base two system Like some
futuristic melodrama from the past Now come to life
Machine, judges
the man. © 2013 Kevin 454 |
