this is what i wear

this is what i wear

A Poem by Kevin Reader

6.3.2007 (3)

this is what I wear

            a polka dot party dress

            to my best friends party

            there are dozens of toys

            wrapped in shiny paper

            tied up tightly in bows

this is what I wear

            green camo pants

entrenched, layered up to my hips

            in a thick mud

I feel stuck in this war of wanton kings

            whose battles serve pockets

in pants other than my own

this is what I wear

            smooth creamy peanut butter

            cold clammy grape jam

spread across my two inner faces

with a knife meant for butter

this is what I wear

            powdered makeup

            prissied and molded in mirrors

dressed for a day in the market

            a market of men

and we’re plum out of peaches

And so the celebration goes on...this is what i wear -a daytona florida t-shirtover arms that have never been to floridaand whatever is left of an old Jimi Hendrix, afterglow, yes, and second hand smoke.this while i sing to youhold me, hold me, hold me(holds up the roses)I love being human. And it seems to me - and I do say this under the faintest of light - that so do you.So here's to your writing...

I don't understand exactly where the poem comes from though the lines 'stuck in this war of wanton kings' and 'a market of men' seem key. But then do we need to know all a poem's dimensions to like it? Nah. I like the boldness and effectiveness of the repeat. You are you. And the images in the verses are delightfully baroque. it's all a comedie del art. and we are all dressed for our parts one way or another.

I like the flow of the poem and the pattern that you set up and followed. You words were enlightening! Keep up the good work.

Wow, I don't know why but I really loved the last line, it conveys an emotion that I think of like, it's just typical or something. All this work and you still get nothing kind of thing. Great job, made me think on it and I like it.

this is pretty sweet... metaphors for all who are used? soldiers, party girls, mere food to be eaten by those with money and power? i got the imagery, just wasn't sure what it meant. if that is possible
