A Poem by Kevin Reader

2.23.2007 (3) [At EAPS] Revised 2.28.2007

I am not an Elf!

I am a Leprechaun!

            How dare you,

I say.

            How dare you!

I yell.

My rosy cheeks are burnt permanently on by the sun.

I spent all my time chasing rainbows.

I lost my pot of gold on a dream.

Well, yes I do make cookies,

I say in response.

Well, I do have an affinity for shoes,

I mumble,

but I do not make them, I just wear them.

Alright, I can see how you made the mistake,

I rescind.

I do live in a tree.

            We are both short.

And we both wear green on a regular basis.

I stop to think.

Well, can I take you out for a cold green one?

I inquire.

We would make beautiful little babies.

I probe.

NO?!  What do you mean no?

I yelp.

            Oh, you’re gay.

I relinquish.

            I can accept that.

lol very sureal and strange, and i loved it. its funky and theres so much room for interpretation, i cant wait to read more of your work. it could be races, ethnic backgrounds, or maybe jut views or ourselves,.... i could be way off, but thats wut i love. theres no bounds for this poem. i could interpret it as wutever i want and still be right, becasue poetry has no wrongsss,,,,,.... and u allow for a lot of different interpretations,. i like it

Absolutely loved this..........laughed throughout, the indignation, responses, and his quaint ways..........

Well, I do have an affinity for shoes,
I mumble,
but I do not make them, I just wear them.

The ending a rip roaring laugh!!I like your style........funny and vibrant!!
