A Withered Lizard

A Withered Lizard

A Poem by Kevin Reader

10.18.2007 (2) [306 Apt. 10]

a withered lizard sits alone basking in the midday sun

suddenly a seed blows in;

far away from forests

far from fields

far from friends

the hearty little seed found a place

in the rocky terrain to call home

a stubborn seed

that squeezed water

from where there was none

far from shade

far from comfort

far from trust

this hearty seed found a sweetened wind

and started a garden all its own,

but the flower that began to grow

did not know how to open

in time, eventually the lizard

came to gaze upon this flowers hidden beauty

as he stared in a new midday sun

the flower found the same sweetened wind it floated on long ago

and so it began to sway

and it began to dance

and as the lizard watched

the flower began to bloom
