Fish Pond

Fish Pond

A Poem by Paper Doll

You told me once

You told me twice

I should've listened

But my stupid vice

Led me to keep thinking

About you night and day

But like flowers at a grave

I'm withering away

I can't seem to get you off of my mind

A cigarette that can't be put out

Your memory still lingers with me

A candle that won't seem to burn out

You told me it's best to just forget you

They say there are other fish in the sea

But I'm still stuck here in the fish pond

So what difference is that to me?

I need a better foolproof plan

A way to just leave you behind

Forget about my bittersweet first love

Leave this unrequited love behind

I can't seem to get you off of my mind

A cigarette that can't be put out

Your memory still lingers with me

A candle that won't seem to burn out
