Mia

A Poem by Paper Doll

She’s your worst enemy
And your best friend
She sticks with you
Through thick and thin

Once you’re introduced
She’s with you for good
You can never forget her
Though you wish you could

People say she’s bad
But you think otherwise
She tells you to ignore
All the horrible lies

She’s ugly and vile
Right from the start
She picks at your body
And tears it apart

Lets you fall asleep hungry
And leaves your throat sore
Though she’s killing you slowly
You ask her for more

You want to ignore her
Really, you do
But you cannot ignore
When she’s calling to you

Why does she do this to you?
You ask yourself why
After she’s left you
In the bathroom to cry

You remember back to when
Your friendship was sweeter
When you had felt lucky enough
To have ever met her

Back when she promised you
Beauty and perfection
As long as you followed
All her directions
You told no one of
Your new found friendship
All of your meetings
Were done in secret

When you cheat on your friendship
She always finds out
But when she’s gone, you find
You can’t live with yourself

Then guilt consumes you
And soon she wants back in
Your body cries no!
But you mind lets her win

Just as bad as a drug
She intoxicates you
Takes control of your life
You can’t help what you do

With her, you’re complete
Without, you can’t live
Scarcely rewards you
Though you give and give

You’re addicted to her
Though deep down you despise
That you friendship is built
On sadness and lies

You yearn for the humdrum
Of a normal life
Rather than the one you have
Filled with agony and strife

She disgust you, repulses you
Yet still you strive
To be just like her
Because that’s how you thrive

She feeds your desire
To be perfect and thin
It’s her that compels you
To do all these things

Force it back up!
Though you’re tired and weary
Your throat stars to bleed
But it’s the least of your worries

You start coughing out blood
But still you push on
Even though you know
What you’re doing is wrong

She encourages you
Even while your eyes water
And your fingers are drenched
In your own blood and saliva

But what happens when
It becomes more than that?
Soon it’s the only
Way for you to relax

She gives you an outlet
A way to release
That helps take away
All your anxieties

It calms your nerves
And emotional pain
Along with the benefit
Of no weight gain

But not many suspected
That you two were friends
So it came as a shock
When you world darkened

Regardless of the pain
That she makes you suffer
You don’t want the help
That others offer

Parents are concerned
Mother cries herself to sleep
While father tries to forget
And ignore his misery

You look in the mirror
You can’t see a change
She says to keep trying
Again and again

So the cycle continues
Day after day
She pushes you ‘till
You wither away

She’s your worst enemy
And your best friend
She sticks with you
Right ‘till the end
