Tell Me You Miss Me

another recentish poem.

I’m well accustomed to

                                Empty beds

                And broken hearts

Especially in

                                September

 

But your eyes wander to

                This future

I’m still desperately trying

To save myself from

 

But even still

                My heartstrings

Beg for you to

                Play me a

                                Melody

 

Deep down I know

                September is on its way

And I hope

                You understand

I don’t want

Callused feet to be

All that comes out of

                This summer

 

I know you

                You’re an ocean tide

Of a lover

And tides my dear

                Recede

 

Which explains

                Why your

Ocean colored affections

                Always come to me

In

                Waves

 

I hope while I’m away

 your

                Seaside colored eyes

Find some time

Gazing at that

                Sky

 

And you think about

                How silly it is

That you’re the ocean

                                The boy who can barely swim

And I am the sky

                                The girl afraid of heights

 

But you know

                There are reasons

For both

 

But mostly I hope you remember

                When I’m away

                                To tell me

You miss me
