What Does Pink Taste Like?

What Does Pink Taste Like?

A Poem by kera moondust
"

Done off the prompt write about a color. lol

"

When I was little I used

To speak about

                How the color pink

Would taste

I was an unimaginative child

With a bad attitude

                Blond hair

And the traditional

My favorite color is

                                Pink

See if pink were a flavor

                Which according to

                                4 year old me

                Well it totally is

I thought

It’d taste like strawberries

I know

How lame is

                That?

But I still want that strawberry pink sky

To devour these lungs of mine

When I got a little older

I was given the chance to explain

What the color pink

                                Tasted like

At the age of 11

I wasn’t any better at climbing jungle gyms

And I learned my blue eyes would never

                Ever

Be my favorite color

Of pink

I told them pink tasted like

                                Water melon

Or summer sunsets

Casting long shadows under my

Under my dirty toes

A few years later I gave up

Blond hair

And decked myself in

Monochromic ink

But when I was asked

What’s your favorite color anyway?

                I’d always say

           Pink

Then they’d ask me well what flavor is that?

And to a 15 year old girl

With nothing constant in this life

Well pink tastes like raw meat

Fresh like my new hair do

But familiar like these eyes that haven’t changed

But nothing you’d ever think of as

                                Your favorite color

It’s been a few years since then

And it’s amazing what you learn

If someone were to ask me now

What pink

                Tastes like

I’d tell them

It tastes like strawberries

But only on the back of your tongue

                And watermelon

                                When your toes are dirty

                And it’s a summer sunset

It also tastes like

                Raw meat

But only when my hair is monochromic

Can you taste

                 The savory flavors

Pungent before they’re brought to justice

By flames

But I’d tell you it especially tastes

Like bubblegum and cotton candy

Because well life is sweet

So why wouldn’t

                My favorite color be

I think you really captured the essence of growing up here and how just one constant in your life is enough to keep you who you are even after everything. Great write

When people say "poem", there are different notions of what that should mean......to me, it should mean this. Something well thought out, composed artfully and neatly, and conveying your interesting ideas and reflections. I'm so very glad I found this to read. Keep at it.

thank you so much =)
Sweet ride, I love how you came about with the color, right back to strawberries where you started. Pink is so not my favorite color, but I really enjoyed this one.
