A Name in Common

A Name in Common

A Poem by kera moondust
"

I met a guy at a party last night, completely classic, but he shares the name of someone really special to me, and it's kinda weird and ironic how life works things out.

"

They were born on different planets

No way

Different universes

Years

Vintage over pretty boy

Because we all have names that begin with the letter T

The first is handsome

Rugged

Smeared in oil and dirt and lodged under a car engine

Chiseled features with deep brown eyes

He likes to work out or maybe it was he’s a work of art

And is a football fan

           GO BRONCO’S!

He has robbed me of my heart for as long as I can remember

I mean I’ve known him all my life

Well I guess since I was 4 months old…

That’s basically all my life right?

But it’s best I don’t forget he is 600 miles away

The second’s got long hair

And glasses

A goofy smirk that I have barely known for 24 hours

Maybe 25

Party time always works different then real world time

His eyes are blue… I think

The lighting wasn’t that great

But he still checked out my…. Nails

Let’s go with that

When we snuck off to the back room

And talked for 3 hours straight

I think it was 3 hours…?

Whatever he’s still right here in front of my eyes

And I’m spending New Year’s Eve with this

                           Tantalizing stranger

           Eye’s under glasses

It’s amazing how different they are

How little I know them both

Despite… knowing one of them for decades

How I’m tantalized by words tied on strings and the idea that

                           Maybe

           Just maybe

Names and dates are giving a hand to fate

It’s too soon to tell if I’m trading one for the other

But for now

My heart’s not 100% full

And I can make room for one more

The first is quiet and polished

A survivor

And a perv

Of course… I wouldn’t mind going…

           All The Way

                For him.

The second well he’s a musician

A gamer

And a not so perfect gentlemen

Of course… If he plays me a song

I just might write him a poem

And then we can try to harmonize and sing along.

I guess I can see my future on both sides of the spectrum

I just think it’s a little ironic that such different men

Share a name in common.
