Where I'm fromA Poem by kera moondustA poem that describes my childhood in a nut shell =)I’m from sun bleached hills Covered in sage brush and spackled with garbage Broken trinkets and rocks Hills that stretch arms up to the sky Until they peak into the highest of desert mountains I’m from grass sticking to my feet Caressing my toes and staining my knees, Concrete bricks and tulips planted every year in the spring From seeds like mini water melons And Mid July tempests Warm rainy blizzards I’d dance to in my rain boots I’m from long drawn out stretches of open road To compliment yawns of tired children And the hum of wheels on pavement in the night The twinkle of the dashboard reflecting in the back window I’m from blackened toes on trampolines And a little rusty red wagon Dream catchers with diamond centers Running up and down streets Wishing on the first evening star And holding your hands in front of your face to test the dark I’m from ceilings painted swirly from dreams To mold intertwining fingers Of childhood crushes and love Holding a skin deep midnight That I couldn’t even dream of grasping now I’m from the look of soft brown eyes Playful punches, pokes, and giggles And I’ll never forget the time you pushed me on the tire swing Or how we ran all over the woods at the back of your property Your camper And that painful eight hour drive just to see you But most of all I am from family’s arms wrapped around me Sloppy kisses slapped on my cheeks And meaningless chitchat “Oh my how you’ve grown” “What grade are you in now?” “And How old are you?” Murmured in my presence in a million chiming voices All laced with love heavy in there undertones © 2012 kera moondustAuthor's Note
