Our Country is Rotting.A Poem by kera moondustWe did a project with some political poetry in my Critics of Society class today, and I produced this poem out of the thoughts those poems produced. I like the result if not a little drab. The cities

with murder Delivered in
cold blood And graffiti Smoke hazed
clouds Collect over
hesitant small towns Ignorance the
best policy in a One horse
town like this I’m sure you
will have something to say When rough
city boys Deflower your
little sisters RED The color of
curbs Flames That engulfs
your exploding city With your
own hate WHITE Like snow
mixed with Ash A blanket
around pale bodies In the dead
of winter BLUE As light on
the bottom of the ocean A color the
sky is working to forget And don’t
forget the pants that plaster her Thighs Leaving indigo
ink tints on concrete How can you
look me in the Eyes And not tell
me Our country
is rotting The mold in
the subway station Picture perfect
and matching The dirt
engulfing your mind Carving away The enamel of
your teeth With green
greedy giants Looking down On the wet
cold noses Of your
starving children Lady
Liberties not pretty anymore All suited
up in her best pollution Scum collecting
around the shorelines of her feet Wearing a
carbon crown Don’t shoot
the child Tell me Whose untouchable
